Home 9 About

Founded in 1916, Birds Connect Seattle (formerly Seattle Audubon Society), an independently incorporated nonprofit, 501(c)3, organization, was the state’s first conservation organization. It now stresses urban conservation, focused on birds, and following an antiracist path. The organization is located in the Wedgwood neighborhood in north Seattle and its service area stretches from Seattle, north to the King County line, south to SeaTac and Renton, east to Mercer Island, and west to Puget Sound. Its 4,200-plus members make it one of the largest independent chapters in the national Audubon network. In partnership with more than 225 volunteers, the organization offers environmental and bird education programs for adults and youth, field trips and neighborhood bird outings, community science projects, and community outreach programs. Its urban conservation mission revolves around its Bird-Safe-Seattle initiative focusing on protecting and expanding tree canopy, eliminating bird-window and -building collisions, and reducing the use of toxic pesticides.

Our Values

We are a community of passionate, talented, and unique individuals, and our service is Birds Connect Seattle’s most valuable resource. As a staff-run and volunteer-powered organization, we value:

Inspiration. Birds inspire and inform conservation in a unique and powerful way.

Interconnectedness. The health of birds and their habitats is tied to human health.

Equity and Inclusion. Equity and inclusion are necessary to achieve our mission.

Diversity. Diverse perspectives strengthen our understanding of birds, our community, and the environment.

Humility. There are infinite ways to experience and enjoy birds and nature respectfully.

Collaboration. We are most successful when we collaborate within and outside the organization.

Science. Our policies and programs must be informed by science.
