What does the Committee do?

The committee works alongside staff and board members to:

  • Identify and remove barriers that may prevent people from participating in Birds Connect Seattle programs and activities.
  • Advise on equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging (EDI) and help develop organization-wide policies, goals, and strategies.
  • Bring community perspectives to the table, with a focus on ensuring BIPOC and other historically marginalized communities are meaningfully included in decision-making.
  • Support learning and growth through trainings and educational opportunities for learning and repair when challenges or missteps occur.
  • Help strengthen our organization by providing guidance on building and retaining a diverse workforce and creating a culture where people feel valued and supported.
  • Participate in EDI-related activities, including community outreach, facilitation, and special projects.

The committee meets monthly, as needed, and works with Birds Connect Seattle staff and board to advance equity and inclusion as an ongoing part of our organizational work.
