In May, the Seattle Audubon Board of Directors voted in three new board officers. They join our current Board Secretary, Catherine Maxson, to round out our Executive Committee.

It’s so inspiring to look back at all the incredible progress Seattle Audubon has made over the last hundred-plus years, and exhilarating to consider the momentum we’re building for the next century. It’s such an honor to be able to serve this great community as your new Board President. I’m humbled to be surrounded by so many smart and passionate staff, volunteers, donors and members—all fighting the good fight for birds, for the humans who already love them, and for all those faced with barriers to safely experience nature. My term may be a small blip in the scope of our history, but I understand the weight of this moment. I’m here to listen, to be curious, and to do all that I can to make the most of this time with you all.

I am honored and humbled to serve as the new Board Vice President. Seattle Audubon’s commitment to urban conservation and social justice makes me honored to be a part of this team. I look forward to leading board recruitment with a lens of inclusion, supporting the organization in navigating any calm or stormy waters ahead, and continuing to elevate the incredible work that is happening at Seattle Audubon.

I have stepped forward as an interim Treasurer while the board Governance Committee is actively seeking a new Treasurer with a CPA background. I look forward to putting my past experience with managing complex budgets and explaining budgets to other leadership volunteers to good use during my time in this interim role.

Volunteers Assemble at Hoot Camp
Volunteer leaders for Birds Connect Seattle assembled at the organization’s annual Hoot Camp to help make our events and programs more enjoyable, safe, and inclusive.
Wiley Slough Closure Continues
Wiley Slough (or, officially, the Skagit Wildlife Area Headquarters Unit), one of the most popular and diverse birding areas in the region, will remain closed to all public access until at least Nov. 15, as previously advised by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW).
